First Annual
Youth Upstander Award

SeQuoya Elaine Bacon-Jones Award

SeQuoya like to help people. She is what Kidsbridge would call an UPstander. She was a fourth grader at Parker Elementary School, a school Kidsbridge pivoted to quickly with our social-emotional programs to help students after her death. Her young life, 9 years old, came to a tragic abrupt end. We lost her last March when an argument got out of hand and a gun was used to settle the difference. SeQuoya, in the playground, was shot and by accident as an innocent bystander. Kidsbridge honored her with the first annual Youth Upstander Award. SeQuoya was a bright light with lots of admirers. As an UPstander, she stood up and spoke out with respect. SeQuoya liked to help other people, especially her older brother who was bullied. She wasn’t shy to defend him. She loved STEM, sports and cooking, and loved Children’s Home Society’s dance program, the Trenton Education Dance Institute (TEDI). SeQuoya had a unique voice. To forever treasure her spirit and memory, Kidsbridge is honoring her and other Trenton youth with the first annual Youth Upstander Award.
