Cyberbullying and Your Child

Elizabeth K Englander, the founder and director of the Massachusetts Aggression Reduction Center at Bridgewater State college, answered NY times readers questions on cyberbullying. The selected question for today’s article was, “What happens when my child is the cyberbully?” Too often parents are quick to turn a blind eye when they find out that their own children are the perpetrators of bullying. Englander says the first step in fixing a bullying problem is to admit when your child has made a mistake. Englander then adds that it is important for parents to teach their children how to use social networking sites appropriately, then explain to them how cyberbullying is hurtful. Englander also suggests to parents that they should make their child apologize to the family of the person being bullied. To read more tips on how to address cyberbullying problems, click here.
